Stephen A. Avery

Steve is the principal of Avery & Associates, with offices in Albuquerque.  Steve enjoys over fifteen years experience in tax, managerial accounting, and financial management with New Mexico small business. The practice specializes in government contracting, healthcare management, and non-profit financial management.

In 2001, UNM's Beta Alpha Psi, the accounting fraternity, named Steve as their Professional of the Year. In 2002, the local chapter of National Contract Management Association named the firm as one of the recipients of their Founders' Award for the firm contributions in this non-profit area. 

Steve served two terms a President of the Albuquerque Chapter of the New Mexico Society of Certified Public Accountants and served two terms on the State’s Society’s Board of Directors. He is beginning his second term as Treasurer of the Albuquerque Chapter of the National Contract Management Association.

In addition to Steve’s association with the New Mexico Society of Certified Public Accountants, Steve is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the National Contract Management Association.

Steve teaches accounting at the Anderson Schools of Management at the University of New Mexico. Steve considers teaching an essential contribution to society and sacrifices each year to continue his role as an educator.

Steve is a combat infantry veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division, a third generation New Mexican, and is raising three children: Glen (16), Jessica (12) and Montie. (9).
